No LTTE Camp in Pallai: Cabinet Spokesman Debunks Social Media Claims
COLOMBO — The Sri Lankan government has firmly dismissed social
media reports alleging that a Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) terrorist
training camp is operating within the Pallai forest reserve, calling the claims
completely baseless and false.
Speaking at the weekly
Cabinet media briefing on Tuesday, Cabinet Spokesman Minister Nalinda Jayatissa
clarified that official investigations found no evidence of any military or
terrorist activity at the specified site.
Unfolding the Social Media Claims
Addressing questions
regarding rumors circulating across online platforms, Minister Jayatissa stated
that social media reports claiming an active LTTE training center in the Pallai
forest range do not match reality.
"There is neither an
LTTE camp nor a terrorist training center at the location mentioned in these
reports," the Minister confirmed to reporters.
What Investigations Revealed
According to information
gathered by security and administrative authorities, the site in question is
actually the result of an unauthorized civil encroachment:
●
Unauthorized
Forest Clearing: An individual illegally
cleared a portion of the Pallai forest reserve without state permission.
●
Building
Construction: A multi-story structure
was subsequently erected on the illegally cleared land.
●
Current
Operations: The building is currently
functioning as a local garment manufacturing factory.
●
Local Employment: The factory provides employment to residents from the
surrounding villages and local communities.
Minister Jayatissa
reiterated that there is no connection between the facility and any illegal
group, emphasizing that authorities have found zero evidence of terrorist
operations or LTTE involvement at the site. Government agencies are addressing
the regulatory and land-use violations through standard legal channels.
