Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka Releases "Secret Video" Alleging War-Time Sabotage by Rajapaksas
COLOMBO — In a stunning press conference held today,
February 18, 2026, Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka launched a series of explosive
allegations against former leaders Mahinda and Gotabaya Rajapaksa, claiming
they attempted to "sabotage" the final stages of the civil war and
secretly negotiated with the LTTE.
The "Smoking Gun" Video
Fonseka presented never-before-seen video footage dated May
17, 2009—just 24 hours before the official end of the war. He claims the
footage proves:
- Secret
Surrender Talks: Gotabaya and Basil Rajapaksa were allegedly
negotiating with international organizations (ICRC and Amnesty
International) to allow LTTE leaders to surrender, bypassing the military
command.
- Bypassing
the Army Chief: Fonseka, who was in China at the time, asserted that
these discussions were hidden from him despite his status as the Army
Commander.
- The
"White Flag" Twist: He alleged that while Gotabaya Rajapaksa
reportedly ordered General Shavendra Silva to "finish off" those
surrendering, the order never reached the actual battlefield, which
remained under Fonseka's direct command.
Allegations of Military Sabotage
The Field Marshal further claimed that as early as January
2008, the Rajapaksa brothers, along with Admiral Karannagoda, proposed a
flawed military strategy designed to stall the army's progress.
"They wanted to delay the downfall of the LTTE. If
their plan had succeeded, Prabhakaran might be a Chief Minister today,"
Fonseka told reporters.
The "White Flag" Case Vindicated?
Addressing his previous imprisonment over the "White
Flag" scandal, Fonseka maintained that the story was a political
fabrication used to jail him. He claimed the new footage proves he had no part
in any surrender negotiations and that the battlefield operations followed
strict military protocols under his oversight.

DEVELOPING: This revelation comes as Field Marshal
Fonseka continues to position himself as a key anti-corruption figure in the
current political landscape. There has been no immediate response from
representatives of the Rajapaksa family.
